After the summer break, lots of people find it sad to return to school. I must say that I am actually excited. With only a few days to go, I need to finish packing all my things. I will be moving to a new dorm. The dorm is actually a single studio in dorm style. I am so excited! I have missed all my school mates and friends. I am glad that I do not have to buy all of my school things all over again. I only had to replace a few things that were broken or used up from last year.
For freshman and transfer students moving into the dorms, I have compiled a list of the things you may want to consider bringing to your new space. If you live far away from your school, you may want to buy only the basic things for now and then buy the others when you get to school. The items may not seem as bulky when you buy them but they will be when you try to move them. Some of the stores that I love shopping at are Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, Ikea and even Walmart. They offer back to campus items at such great deals. You can even find items in different colors so you can make your room you! I must warn you though, as exciting as buying your own things may seem, college rooms are small. You may also have to share that small space with other people so you need to be aware of the size, and number of things to buy. My suggestions are:
1. Talk to your room mate and find out how you can split things like Television sets, microwaves etc
2. If you are allowed, go and see the room before you move in. This will help you decide how much to bring and still have enough room to breathe. If you're not allowed into the dorms, use pictures from your school's housing website to decide. Note: Some of these may have been zoomed into just to make the rooms look bigger. If none of these are available to you, then you can call the housing office to give you the measurements of the room.
